Gas Lacrimógeno y Lluvia

limpiamos el fuego
de nuestros ojos
pero las calles siguen ardiendo
el humo sube
con el costo de la vida
tiramos nuestras voces
tiro tras tiro
golpeamos ollas vacías
juntamos nuestra hambre
con la esperanza
que queda
entre nuestros dientes
y escupimos
hasta que nos escuchen
hasta que podamos abrir los ojos
sin miedo
a lo que viene

Sirena Rayes was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but has been living in Bogotá, Colombia, for three years now. “Gas lagrimógeno y lluvia,” is her first poem written in Spanish. She has been previously published by Duke City Fix and is currently working on her first book: “Mother Burque/Madre Burque.”
